Fried Green Tomatoes

All levels of growth have delicious potential.

Fried green tomatoes. With gluten free breading. These are the serendipitous delight of this year’s garden. It fell off the vine. Couldn’t just leave it there. What about Fried Green Tomatoes? It turn out, yes, please.

We double breded them - like Daddy used to do. Not with green tomatoes because that would be a no go for Nick. Too weird. Tomatoes are supposed to be red. But when they fall off the vine, you improvise.

The road map is below. Again, recipes are not my thing. I’m a wing-it with fundamental culinary prowess kinda kitchen gal.

So, here’s what we did:

green tomato (sliced) | gluten free flour | egg | gluten free bread crumbs | vegetable oil | salt and pepper to taste | parsley (if you please)

We FEB’d ‘em (Flour Egg Breadcrumbs) and we fried ‘em. We served ‘em up with fresh mozzarella and a simple marinara for dipping. We love a good dipper. They were a hit and have become a thing. Because the ones that don’t turn red deserve a culinary destiny too. They worked hard to become tomatoes. And they were delicious - no matter the hue.

Portable for a, “can you bring something” kind of event. They traveled well.
